Whether you want to push through a tough run or just motivate yourself to get out the door, what's in your head can be your secret weapon. Here's how I get psyched to get moving—and keep going.
Put your running gear on and think about how great you feel after almost every run (and just how awful you might feel if you skip it).
Eat small, frequent meals throughout the day. Skipping meals (or having too much time between them) can make you feel lethargic.
Vary your route daily to stay excited about your runs. Head downtown for a change in scenery, for instance, or throw in a few hills.
Focus on running from one landmark to another. It's easier to meet a shorter goal than trying to tackle the entire run at once.
Develop a mantra , or "power words." For instance: "strong and steady" and "my form will carry me through."
